Jixerman Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Probably a stupid question but Im gonna ask anyhooI have been cleaning my bike and noticed the can is looseSo I checked it out and the bracket holding it in place needs tightening, no biggy there.I also noticed that the joint to the `downpipes is loose so I decided to check furthercan removed and there is not sign of any sealing paste. Is the paste required or should it be just a push fit with no need for sealing?Cheers Quote
yorbandit Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 ERM is it not new ya bike ???? or at least new to you so take it back to the peeps ya bought it off Quote
Jixerman Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 130 mile trip RoyI just wondered if I should smear some paste in the joint to seal it. It's the extension pipe where it meets the downpipesProbably loose due to me dropping it Quote
Guest Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Exhaust paste is only required to achieve a gas tight seal. If it 'blows' when its running, then it needs some. Quote
Jixerman Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 Lol DanIts fooking noisy anyway so im not altogether sure if it ios blowingThere does seem to be some soot like dust in the sleeveSo probably best if I use some paste, but from experience I know this will make removal a lot harder. Quote
Guest Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 doesn't need loads..To check, run bike and either hold hand around seal to feel if it is blowing, or get a smoker to blow smoke around it... Quote
Jixerman Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 DUH!!!!I shoulda know that Dan ThanksBlowing a little................not much thoughSo a smear of paste it isJust wasnt sure whether to use any or notNever had to use it on the GSX, but that has a standard exhaust system and humungous gaskets If it was the car it would have gotten loads Thanks Quote
Guest Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Both my cans slip on and off and there is no seal, just a slot for the can to slip into. There is also a spring that connects the can to the main pipe to get a tight fit and it doesn't blow so no paste required. However, as peeps have said, if she blows then paste is required Quote
