myscoot never wants to start unless i have been riding it for a few miles, which is no use obvously, as the first time in the morning it is started up, it has not been riden for a few miles...

have charged battery up,that didnt work. also lights and horn are ok, so not the battery. How can i fix this?

could be the starter motor starting to give up and drawing to much power from battery and hence it wont spark...........does it kick start ok (if it has one)

:stupid: also try cleaning the switch, undo the switch housing at the bars, and spray with WD40 and scrub with a toothbrush, spray again with WD40 and put back together and try.

yup, starts fine with kick start

also its 5 yrs old. whats most likely to go? the motor or the switch?

BTW it does try and start, you can hear it try for a few seconds before it dies and doesnt seem to want to anymore, so maybe it is the battery? hmm. Wander if i can walk into a shop and ask to try out a battery to see? lol

i had the same with the chinese 125 i had battery fully charged all switch gear clean etc in the end turned out to be the battery only found after i had dropped the battery and cracked it so had to go buy a new one. Fitted new battery and pressed button away we went.

most bike shops will be able to test the battery for you to tell if thats the problem and i doubt very much if they would let u try a battery as when new they have no acid in them they fill it for you while you wait

i have seen 12v batteries from £8-£130. is this like most things, and the £8 one will be rubbish and run out in a week, orwhat? cant think why else it would be cheaper, but with something like this, i also cant see how they can perform different..

EDIT: if they do perform different, what is it due to? and what is the best to get (its only for a scoot, so it doesnt need to be anything brilliant)

The battery choice and cost is really down to the amps of the battery . Something like a scotter shud be ok with a battery of 5 amps , my blackbird is a 10 amp battery , and the girlfriends Hipster 125 cc is 6amp .

I would pay around £25 for a reasonably decent battery .

Hope this is useful .
