Alternatives to Almax??

I am not really bothered with securing my chinese thingy (just disc lock)but as my gf bought yzf-r125 I need to get a decent chain+lock+anchor package. I am looking at 16mm link thickness and the choice is:

- Almax Imobiliser III + Squire SS65CS Lock + ground anchor : £200 - £225 (depends on anchor type) +£8 delivery

- Torc Ground Anchor, Protector 16mm Chain, Squire SS65CS Lock : £199 delivery free

- Squire Ex-Caliber SS65 16mm 2.0m Chain & SS65CS Padlock : £162 delivered (anchor separate)

- Oxford Nemesis 16mm link chain & lock : £133 delivered (anchor separate)

All chains 1.5m long and 16mm thick, all chains/padlocks/anchors SoldSecureGold approved. Which one would you pick?

So the security will be: anchor on a brick wall => 16mmx2m chain=> r125=>oxford hd chain=>my bike.

Well my vote would be for the Almax and Squire lock option.

I bought one of these kits recently and am very impressed with it, bloody heavy and i would love to see someone try to hack through that lot!

I also use it with an 'Anti Pinch Pin' from Torc Anchors, it goes through the body of the bike so the chain is attached either end meaning the chain goes through a ground anchor and the bikes wheel and chassis. Just means they can't unbolt the rear wheel and walk off with it.

Also have a search on you tube for Almax Chanis, there's some videos of people trying to cut through the Almax and loads of other chains, the Almax is the one that the hand bolt croppers don't get through

and also a decent cover you can stick over the top to hide it

One of the most often stolen road bikes, so I'd suggest a garage, ground anchor, expensive chain, CCTV and a rottweiler.

I have seen those videos but they compared Almax with thinner chains (13mm) and I think all those companies with their new 16mm chains may start to catch up with Almax also offering some savings

And @QueenB, yeah, I know and thats why untill I sort proper security it will be kept in our kitchen

Also as Jimmi said, one of the most important things to get is a bike cover. The tattier the better (if it's a crappy tatty cover the bike must be crappy too right???)

If they can't see what it is straight away they'd be less likely to nick it as they'd need to lift the cover too see if it's worth nicking.

Basically do everything you can to make the process of them stealing a bike as long and drawn out as possible.

Ok I'll dig this subject a bit deeper lol. Anyone think any 16mm link chain is good to use or is it just Almax and nothing else? As like I said in those youtube movies they are comparing 16mm almax with 13mm chains so no wonder it is better. Now all companies are describing all 16mm chains as "uncroppable". Your opinions please?

"Uncroppable" (is it guaranteed?).

or "cropper resistant" (which means nothing).

There's also hydrualic bolt croppers too...

They've got to be careful with their wording else they'll be breaking the trade descriptions act.

I'd consider the use of any 16mm chain for a bike i don't really care about (not less).

I'd pick the Almax for any bike i did (have yet to see a company offering the guarantees Almax does for similar money) - IIRC it's only £150 for the series 3 1.5m with the squire lock. Or £135 for the CISA lock.
