Guest Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Hello! I'm looking at getting a bike in the next few months, but I keep hearing different things about what I need, so thought a bike forum would be the best place to ask.I'm currently 20, and have held my full driving license for over 3 years now. I've heard different things about what I need to do, some people say that because I've got a full car license, I can ride a 125cc without taking a CBT, others say its upto 50cc. I wont be able to do any kind of tests for a few months, so thinking that I might wait until I turn 21 and doing the direct access scheme .Would I need to take a theory test again? From what I understand I have to take a CBT first, if I'm going to do the DAS or not. Is this correct? Is all rather confusing at the moment lol. Thanks Quote
rennie Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 hello and welcome to TMBF please say hello in the newbies section most of your questions are already answered in this sectionyes you need to do your CBT first Quote
Jixerman Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Hello Welcome Because you have only had you license 3 years you need to do your CBTI think the 50cc thing only applies if you gained your full car license before 2001Where that fooking link?...........it has been discussed already http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=31954Thar ya goes Quote
Guest Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 In this section of the forum is my guide to how to get your license, and what you're allowed. To clear it up, you need to do a CBT before riding anything. Only people who passed before 2001 can ride a 50cc without l plates and CBT, but really, who wants to do that? You can pass a test on a 50cc anyway.I do wish people would stop trying to avoid the CBT, its actually a fun day any other questions, feel free to post or PM me... Quote
dieliekdawg Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I do wish people would stop trying to avoid the CBT, its actually a fun dayYep, I had a blast doing mine. There's a lot of basic safety stuff discussed which is obviously aimed at kids on scooters but you can do your CBT on a 500 if you're going down the DAS route which makes the road riding a lot more fun. My CBT road ride was more like a Mod2 training run really... Quote
Guest Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Thanks for the replies . I was just looking at my driving licence and under the categories it says 'B, B1, f, k, p', wikipedia says 'Engine capacity must not exceed 50 cc and the maximum design speed must not exceed 50 km/h (31 mph)'. Got a bit confused as people have said that I need to take a CBT first, but this says that I can ride one already...unless I've got the wrong end of the stick.Edit - Looks like it gives me provisional entitlements, so allows me to take the test?
