Guest Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Hello everyone,Could anybody please suggest some new tyres for my cbr125r. I'm looking to go a little bit wider than the stock ones (especially on the rear) but I don't want to change the wheels. Any ideas or helpful links would be much appreciated. Thanks, Nizz Quote
Guest Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 They are that size for a reason, changing them could totally mess everything up! Quote
Jimmi_929RR Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 ^ Agree with both. A wider rear tyre is going to slow the steering down dramatically making the bike difficult to turn. Why did you want a wider tyre? Quote
Guest Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I wanted a wider tyre for a bit more grip when stopping (especially in the wet) the bike has a tendency to slide when braking at reasonable strength (even at slow speeds or speed apt for the road conditions) also in the corners and roundabouts it likes to drift outwards. One of my friends has a superbyke which has wider tyres and its far more stable in cornering and braking. unfortunately his is a motard style and the tyres are therefore a cross between off-road and slick which i was trying to avoid for mine as its meant to be sporty. Thanks guys Quote
Jimmi_929RR Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 What brand tyres have you got on there & how old/worn are they? They shouldn't be skidding/sliding on a CBR125 even in the wet unless (a) they're a really shit budget make (b) they're well worn out © you've over-inflated them or (d) you're riding WAY too hard. Guest Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 They are called Eagle grip nr73s if that means anything to you. I run them at the correct pressure (mainly to save some fuel). The bikes done 5500 miles on them and they are getting worn hence i want to replace them. but they slid before the wear came. I ride hard some of the time and have started to learn wheelies and other little stunts but I only use empty carparks/roads for this where I don't need to stop or corner and I don't ride the bike hard on normal roads if the road conditions aren't good. So by process of elimination I guess the tyres aren't good.I have been looking on other forums and have heard of a few tyres people are using:Michelin Pilot 'Sporty'Bridgestone BT39SS BT45If anyone knows anything about the above (other than what the manufacturers say) then please let me know ThanksNizz Quote
Jimmi_929RR Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I agree - those are Singapore or Philipines budget rubbish i think.Any of those 3 would be a good choice. I've had Michelin and Bridgestone recently and it's hard to tell that much difference between the two. The Michelins feel like they have a bit more grip but that's not to say the Bridgestones aren't grippy. They're also both adequate in the wet, but of course you don't want to be riding anywhere near as hard in the wet as in the dry so i haven't pushed them to the limit in the rain to be sure. So basically, I reckon it'll sort out the ride with a set of either Quote
Guest Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Doubt its skidding, its probably a mix of poor technique and lack of feedback from tyre/ suspension.Get some Michelin sportys very good tyres. Also, try not to kill the throttle mid corner, its probably that making you think it skids? And if its skidding when braking then your using too much rear brake, remember rear brake is only really used at low speeds just to stabilise you, not to actually stop you. j4ff Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Ditch the oem tyres get some sporties dont alter the sizes.Im assuming the rear is sliding under braking. If it had been the front youd be off so practice braking with the front.Rear brake drags the bike rendering it pretty useless for stopping quickly. The front brake buries the tyre into the road spreading the contact patch. Some people have an issue loading the front,as long as you dont grab an instant handfull asking too much of the tyre, jst progressivly squeeze. The rear goes so light engine braking alone will lock the rear.Notice the rear as all the weight has gone to the front tyrehttp://www.powerslide.net/forum/uploads/monthly_09_2009/post-835-1252673089_thumb.jpg Quote
