Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Went to take my clutch cable of the SV the other day to lube it! Couldn't get it out in the end, so gave up! Now the clutch lever is too stiff.I've loosened of the locking wheel and gone to turn the adjuster towards the lever to loosen it off slightly and it is just to stiff and makes a crunching noise. The lever is really stiff! What have I done wrong?thank you Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 have you pulled the cable and made a tight turn in it somewhere that would make it go very tight apart from that if you havent touched anything else thats about all it can be Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 No I never got the cable out, so haven't touched that, whether cable has twisted with me trying to turn the adjuster I don't know! Am I ok to ride if I can manage the stiff clutch! Don't want it snapping on me! Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 yes will be ok to ride might be worth you getting new cable as a spare just in case it does break Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Sounds like you've not put it in correctly.Get a haynes, you know you want to (or just take a few pics and i'll probably be able to see what you've done wrong ) Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I've tried to buy a spare, think it's something handy to carry around but I can't find one for a K6! I never actually got the cable out as I couldn't do it, I loosen all the bits ready to get it out, fiddled with it and reaslied I couldnt' do it, so went to tighten the bolts up again and there just stiff and crunching! Clutch lever works ok though! I'm confused.comGot the haynes and followed it to a T!!!! Quote

I would check, but pretty sure its the same on all the SV650s (not curvy) Suzuki have a habit of keeping bits that work, so K3-K6 (£8.99 MandP.co.uk - part number 587376) Quote

I'm confused.comGot the haynes and followed it to a T!!!!could be one of 3 things, that spring to mind.1. you've overtightened the bolt and nut which holds the lever 2 . you could have compromised the safety switch under the lever (needs removing before lever)3. you've changed the angle of the lever so the "flow" of the cable is off. Stu Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 have you turned the adjuster too much? it could have popped out the clutch leaver housing get some pics if you can Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 The adjuster is only moving a few threads each way and everything else is in place! At Mum and dads and there computer don't take my phone chip! So no pics sorry! Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 try the nut on the other side of the bolt. (Lever) think you have overtightened both, pinching the lever Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Ok all I've touched is the locking wheel thing that tightens the bolt and and the adjuster bolt it's self, the locking wheel is fine, spins loose towards the lever and tightens away, its the cable adjuster bolt that only moves a thread or two each way and just grinds on the cable! haven't touched anything else and everything else is in its place! Just worried the bloody thing is going to snap, when I take it out!Right what I'll do is, I take it out for a quicky after work tomorrow and see if there's any probs, if not, then I'll get dad to have a look when he gets back from hols, if there is, I'll be ringing my mate from work to pick me up in the van! Quote
spunky1976 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 is the cable adjuster bolt in cross threaded? this would make it only tight and only move a thread or two.no idea why it would be grinding though Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 last ditch ....as all you have played with is the adjuster, is the cable snagged in the cut out of the adjuster... try pulling the cable (plastic bit) to re-seat.. Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 No I've checked the cable, as I thought that, but it appears to be turning round the cable as you would expect and I don't think its twisting the cable, though I can't be 100% sure as I can't see it. I'm wondering if it's gone back to where it started but I'm just thinking it feels stiff it that makes sense! though I'm sure the adjuster started closer to the lever.Hey ho, thanks for the help, I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow! New lid to test to Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 have you just taken up the slack then... should have a couple of mm, slack before the lever starts to bite.. Quote
Guest Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Not tested it like that, just checked the free play! Quote
