Guest Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Hi everyone,we're planning our first trip north of Glasgow the week after next and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for best scenic routes / places to stay (nice B&Bs or not-too-expensive hotels) ~ and whether we're being unrealistic with the distances we're looking at ~ don't want to spend more than about 4 or 5 hours per day on the bike (apart from 1st day to get us past Glasgow!) We did Austria 2 years ago with a group and spent 10 to 12 hours a day hammering along which just wasn't pleasant. We keep being told the west coast is the best scenery (& we're 2-up on a tourer) We planned to do it last year but the week we were off the weather was horrendous... We know we're going to see some rain! but hoping for a half decent week We're hoping to do day 1 Cheshire to Oban Day 2 to Fort William to Isle of SkyeDay 3 up to Inverness along Caledonian canalDay 4 Maybe up to John O'GroatsDays 5 & 6 getting back to Cheshire Any suggestions gratefully received ~ Cheers, Mark & Ally Quote

Guest Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Thanks to all for your input, now wondering whether to spend 2 days on Skye or not and if so any suggestions on reasonable b&b's on the isle and places not to miss. Definitely doing the Bealach Na Ba "Pass of the Cattle" and up to Ullapool. Can't wait! Quote
