wannars125 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 (edited) A couple of weeks ago, Nikki (my other half) suffered a miscarriage. The staff at Frimley Park hospital local to us were absolutely fantastic in their support right from the point of our first visit to A&E all the way through to the end and as a token of appreciation to their services I decided to organise a charity event to raise some much needed cash for them.If you'd like to see the original thread, you can find it here. After looking at a few different options, a charity abseil seemed like the best option as it is fairly cheap to do (so more money goes to the charity rather than the organiser), in my opinion quite a challenge - how many people would throw themselves off 120ft cliff - and it's in Wales which means some nice roads to go riding around. It's also open to children too over the age of 10 so even if you don't fancy trying it, your kids might want to have a go and do it for a good cause in the process. The abseil centre is located in the Loggerheads Country Park in Wales - map clicky here and looks fairly close to the Snowdonia National Park. The website for the centre is clicky here. For those that don't want to take part, the Loggerhead Country Park is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty so there plenty to go explore around with a cafe nearby. Details clicky here.Normal cost is £40 per person but with 11 or more people a 10% discount is applicable and with over 20 people a discount of 15% can be had. Groups should get at least 2 abseils but if progress is good this can go up.The dates that I was looking to do this on would be either the 18th or 25th of September and this would be for a session starting at 2pm. I've put a poll up for dates and would like to make a decision by next Wednesday 18th August which would then leave at least a month to get sponsors.I do hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join in. The last time I went abseiling it was about 20 years ago and I still remember it clearly as being really good fun and it's all for a good cause. Edited August 13, 2010 by wannars125 Quote
Guest Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 so are you having sponsorship forms done or using internet based sponsorship..? Quote
Guest Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I have suggested the internet site justgiving would be most useful for other forum members but those doing the abseil could get sponsors too and give anand a cheque on the day? Sadly I cant make either of those days Will happily put together a sponsor form for the event though that people can download and print Can someone PM me if they want me to do this plz. Quote
rennie Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I/we can't do those dates either, but I think my abseiling days are over Good luck! I hope you raise lots! Quote
Guest Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 First date I'm on holiday, and second away in Germany with work.Do the dates have to be these? If there are a selection available that you could also make maybe put up a poll to increase the chances of more people attending?I did abseiling once... scared shitless but as I went over the edge I realised the rope would hold and I'd be fine Quote
techno Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I also am unavailable on both those dates!!But good luck with it! Quote

wannars125 Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 I've added another couple of dates on for October if these suit better. If there's more people that can attend on those dates then that works better I think in terms of fundraising.I'm also going to have to stay the evening as I don't think I could be bothered to ride back later. If there's anyone that is also in this same situation, maybe we could look at campsites close by or cheap B&B's. If there's enough people then I'm sure we could organise some discounted rates.I've not got around to it yet but will set up a JustGiving page by the end of the day. Quote
rennie Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I've voted now I'm not doing the abseiling! been there done that, too fat and old now! but we may turn up to lend support. Quote
wannars125 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 I'm really sorry but I've not been able to setup the just giving page. I was hoping that having left a message for their fundraising department at 9am yesterday they would have got back to me but didn't so will try them again on Monday... Quote
