iain Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 hi folks, my z1000st has got rattling front calipers, both sides. its caused by the mounting bracket that the caliper fits onto. when i bought the bike it never had the internal rubber grommets, this has caused the rattle which has in turn caused the holes for bolts to expand slightly, therefore caused the rattle. i got the grommets as soon as i could and it hasnt made any difference to the rattle, its got worse.does anyone know of a way to fix this problem, i was thinking about getting slightly bigger diameter bolts and drilling out the holes in the mounting bracket and caliper body. do you think this would work ??im in central scotland and im wondering if theres anywhere near me that can do it so i dont f**k it up. thanks for any help or advice given Quote
iain Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 also, i know that calipers off other zed's fit but i dont want to have to buy unless i really have to, im just a tight arse lol.thanks again Quote
Guest Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 have you filled the slide (the bit inside the rubber) with grease.. like i did with my 1982 Katanahttp://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1983-r2-z ... t/14D.html Quote
iain Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 i tried that mate but its not made any difference, do you think if i drill it out it will make it weaker and cause more problems ? Quote
Guest Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 can you get another set? If not then i'd be careful.. might be an idea to sleeve them instead...or even fill with JB weld and then redrill...... Quote
iain Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 i havent seen the caliper bracket/slider for sale anywhere for this bike, only full callipers and they are a bit pricey atm, im not guarenteed they wont have the same problem. mate,im going to try the JB weld, i just spotted it on ebay and im going to order it now )that should save me a few quid and if that doesnt work then i'll have to get other calipers.thanks again mate ) Quote
iain Posted August 31, 2010 Author Posted August 31, 2010 after stripping the callipers down yet again, i found the seals were not seated right they must have moved when i put the bolts in the last time, anyway,i checked the mounting plate and the bolts, there not as worn as i first thought.i fixed the seals and re-packed them with extra thick grease and it seems to be fixed, doesnt rattle anymore.thanks for the advice mate, i appreciate it Quote
