Hello,

I am thinking of buying a new helmet and looking at Arai they offer a 5 year guarantee, it got me thinking about the lite expectancy of an helmet. Knowing that Arai ones are great quality, would that imply that helmet from other brands would need replacing after let's say 2-3 years? Does the quality of an helmet goes down with time? Or could one keep his helmet for 8-10years, as long as he never dropped it, etc. Or should one change helmet every 50k miles, etc?

Thanks in advance

I think most helmet manufacturers will advise every 2 years. UV rays do damage a helmet as does the obvious drop or spill, 2-3 years is probably a good amount of time to replace your lid. chances are that you'll be bored of 1 by themn anyways........

I should imagine that the the padding inside squashes down over time & therefore would affect the fit. Trouble is, you'd get used to it & not realise that it wasn't as snug as it ought to be

When ever you feel it needs replacing, be it getting old/tatty, after an accident (i replaced mine after my second accident) etc.

There is no set period, its just as you see fit really.
