Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Hello there I am just wanting some advice to make sure I'm on the right line and not confusing myself. At 21 years old if I pass my full test (DAS) can I go out the same day and get a bike any size and then get insured on it the next day and legally ride it?Is there any time I have to wait from passing to actually riding a bike? What is the quickest I can get my DAS done roughly and how much is it going to cost me?Also one last question - cheapest way to get my insurance down at 21? Thanks very much guys and lasses Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 once you pass your test, you can go and buy a bike and ride it straight away, i think your gonna be looking along the lines of £600 for cbt,theory,mod1 and mod2.as far as getting your insurance cost's down at 21. you gotta shop about but expext to be paying a fair few quid as your young with no ncb Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Thanks mate for a quick response mate. How long does the CBT, and other tests take to fully complete? Can I do it in 1-2 weeks? Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 i did mine in 4 days from cbt to test but that was b4 mod1 mod2. 2 weeks should be plenty of time to get them both in, get your theory booked first cos you cant sit any tests until it's been passed Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Okay mate thanks very much. Can you get insured same day as passing? Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Thanks very much. Now the big question... size of bike to get when pass?I've had a 125 for a year I did and have ridden bigger bikes. As long as I ride sensible and wear all the right gear will it be alright to get a GSXR600/1000?1000 if I save up for little while Thank you. Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Get a 500cc first and get some no claims and upgrade after a year or so. Or get the quotes for a bike you like and if you can afford it, go for it. Quote
Horseynat30101 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 gixxer thou for first bike!! wow! lol Quote
cypek Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 For a first year or 2 get something not as extreme. Something like GPZ500 or naked 600 like Bandit / Hornet will be much cheaper to insure. Im 32 and Bandit TPFT is 160 for a year and zx6r for example is 295 TPFT so almost twice. for you it will be much more so check first Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Any bike only goes as fast as you want it to - but I'd be wary of getting a litre sportsbike straight away. As others have suggested, the insurance will be a killer if nothing else.Careful choice of bike could get your insurance down. For example, an FZ6 Fazer is cheaper than an R6, even though they share very similar engines. Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I just had a look at ebay and on some reviews on google searching. How does this sound for me to do :Pass my testRide a zxr400 for 1-2 years then get a litre bike? Quote
cypek Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Sounds much better than getting a litre straight away lol. Just get a few insurance quotes as those sports 400s may still be quite expensive Quote
Guest Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Alright will the couple of years ncb help me on insurance alot on a litre bike?Has anybody had any exp with the 400s do I try and get the UK model zxr400 or the imports still okay? Quote
eljazz Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Alright will the couple of years ncb help me on insurance alot on a litre bike?Has anybody had any exp with the 400s do I try and get the UK model zxr400 or the imports still okay? I ride a Honda Bros 400 and I'm 100% happy for two reasons. 1) I didn't have to do a DAS (I couldn't afford it) and 2) I prefer to go from 125cc to 400cc as even that seemed like a huge step when I got on the bigger bike.Hope this helps :^) Quote
PhatDad Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Also, don't forget to buy a crappy big bike first as you're pretty much going to drop it a few times and mess it up till you're well experienced then go for a new shiny one. Quote
