Enaver Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Hey everyone!Im going to be booking my A2 bike test soon. Im abit confused about how to carry out the Emergency stop properly. My main question really is, while im doing the stop, say if im in gear three, am i ment to be going down gears while i stop? Or am i just ment to stay in gear three? Also, once i have came to a complete stop, i am ment to put my foot down? Thanks!Nic Quote
sparkeh9 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 if you pull in your clutch, what does it matter which gear you're in? Just brake, pull in the clutch and worry about knocking it down until after you've stopped. After you stop, put your foot down to stabilise your bike and check your mirrors and stuff Quote
techno Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 yeh just stop dont worry about gears, and surely if you stop you have to put your foot down or you'll fall over Dont forget to do the usual checks after before pulling away or to the side of the road. Quote
Mightycaz Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Don't pull the clutch in till your just about to come to a stop, it will help with the braking without the fear of locking wheels up. If you stall you have a few seconds to get it going again ( I was told about 3...). And always remember to do a lifesaver when you have stopped or it could ear you a minor. If you can drop it into second when you first start to brake, again the engine braking will help you slow much better. Quote

oldgreg01 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 You will get a minor or worse if you try to downshift. Just concentrate on stopping without locking up the wheels. Remember you just have to stop safely in a reasonable distance, don't try and set a new record.Best thing you can do if you have your own bike is get out there and practise. Quote
Enaver Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 Okay, if i stop in gear 3 i cant go down to gear 2 while stationary, i have to rock it abit sometimes. So i take it that the examiner doesnt mind if i have to do rock it abit to get it down to gear 2? Quote
polecat Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 after each exercise the examiner gives you plenty of time to prepare for the next so sorting your gears out will be part of your restart procedure anyhow.Just Do not Do what I did and start the engine without the clutch in even though neutral light was on cos I nearly ran over his foot Quote
