GPZ Woes

I've got a N reg GPZ 500 that refuses to start. Was using it regularly until about 2 weeks ago, when it decided not to play ball!

Just had the RAC here, they managed to get it running for a bit, firstly he started it with the fuel off, turned it over about a million times until it was running, switched the fuel on and left it to run for a while. All good at this point, running very smoothly engine warming up. We then switched it off and tried to start it again, nothing would only turn over despite being warm!

Any ideas out there? Was also wondering how you get the fuel tank off?

Thanks for any help in advance

Not an expert in the least, so this is only a suggestion :)

I'd check that your spark plugs aren't gunged up, as well as giving the battery a good charge (turning over a million times uses juice)

I had a bike that didn't like starting (or running for that matter) turned out I had lost compression in at least 1 cylinder :(

Thanks man, going to check the plugs as soon as I can get the fuel tank off :) The RAC dude had a jump starter plugged in so my batt is fine atm.

Thanks for your answers.

Sadly not mate down in Kent, Just outside Canterbury. Thanks anyway.

Shame indeed, I used to live in Ashford.

If you are still having trouble, pop in to Tagg Racing (just outside Ashford) and see Paul or Jack. I cannot recommend them highly enough

To remove tank, remove seat, and unclip the front fairing "horns" that go along side the tank.

Then undo the main bolt at the base of the tank.

Then, slide the tank backwards (towards the seat) until it unhooks, then you can lift it up.

Then, have a friend pull off the cables (first move down the cable chokes, then just pull the cable off). Don't worry about petrol pouring out, as its a vacuum system and not much will come out if any at all.

Then stick it on the floor upside down :)

Mind that on the underside of the tank, near the front, will be two rubber "wheel" type things. Don't lose them! They stop the tank from vibrating.

Then, reverse that procedure to put it back on.

Thanks man, will do. Ashfords a bit of a haul, but good people are hard to find.

Cheers also for the fuel tank instructions cobbZ, when I get a chance I'll remove the tank and get some new plugs and leads on the beast. We tried something similar yesterday, but because it wouldn't move that easily we were unsure enough not to want to break anything.
