Holliday675 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 bit of a bugger...i have charged my battery on the daytona 675 sufficiently enough, but it still does not want to fire up... anyone got any advise on best things to do after a fair time tucked away.... Quote
Decor58 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Could do with more informatoin on what the bike is actually doing, is it turning over at all? Are you sure the battery is still in good condition?I left mine on charge for two days after the cold weather but still made no difference, had to replace it but only cost £35 so not that bad. Quote
Holliday675 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 yeh its trying to start the battery is sounding like it is fine... but does not want to go, not sure if i need to take the spark plug out and give that a little sproos and adjustment or not.... Quote
Decor58 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I'd first try jumping it off another car or bike if you can to save twitting with spark plugs, it's a quick and easy way to test if it's the battery.Failing that yeah, start with spark plugs. Quote
Holliday675 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 can you jump a bike from a car??? if so will give that a raz and failing that will try the plugs etc.... Quote
sparkeh9 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 as long as it's 12v then theoretically yes, be careful though Quote
Decor58 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Yup just don't rev the car too much, there was a thread a while ago discussing this, outcome was yes as long as it's not a massive battery like on a van I believe. After that I'd check sparks and fuel flow from tank then the carbs. Though this is just the process I went through when I had a similar problem after all the cold weather.I then tried jumping off a housemate car after I'd done all the above and found it was the battery as first suggested lol Quote
Holliday675 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 think im gonna play it safe and give the plugs a little look... failing that there is always buke gaurages..lol Quote
Stu Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 hook it up to a car you will be surprised at how much easier they start if your battery isnt in tip top condition you dont even have to have the car running also it saves draining your battery if its been laid up and battery went flat then it could be the battery is stuffed coupled with stale fuel and possibly damp plugs from trying to start it hook it up give it a go if no joy pull the plugs clean em up dry them out new fuel and it should go Quote
cypek Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 If its been stood for a while then petrol may have gone bad. Put some fresh petrol in and try a bit more. It took a bit to start my gf's R125 after the winter Quote
Guest Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 If its been stood for a while then petrol may have gone bad. Put some fresh petrol in and try a bit more. It took a bit to start my gf's R125 after the winter How long has it been laid up?It could just be upset with you Be careful not to burn out the starter mind, don't press the button for more than 5 seconds at a time is the standard advice, otherwise the starter can overheat and burn out.But yes, try fresh fuel, check plugs. If you have a Haynes, try the trouble shooting section. Quote
Holliday675 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 you will be pleased to know i lifted the tank and had a wee fiddle around decided there was gonna be no joy there so put it down tried it again an hey ho it fires up... think the fuel pipe may have gone dry and lifting the tank may have help more of it get through... yay... cheers for the advise everyone good to know there is people about to help out... thank you Quote
