Hi all

My varadero recently went in for a bad battery, upon returning it, Honda say its fine, and that its down to the amoutn of accessories that I have on the bike (digital thermomter, HID headlights, TPMS). The thing is that the accesories are all switched.

The battery refuses to accept a charge, I can remove it from the bike, put it on charge overnight, put it back in the bike , and it will refuse to start.

yet, This Honda dealership claim that the battery passes a load test and that there is nothing wrong with it......

GRR!

sounds like they haven't tested it ... Only a new battery will prove you right ...

or a second opinion from a independant garage

So you think that if I go to an indy, get them to say the battery is faulty, and take this back to the dealership in writing that they will honour this?

Its really frustrating having such a stubborn dealer.

amongst other things they said,

a) the chain and alignment needs doing

b) the headstock bearings needed adjusting

Thing is, they serviced it under 400 miles (3 weeks!) ago!

To top it off, they are charging a £50 diagnostic fee for looking at it under warranty....

An independant to ascertain if it is faulty. This a new bike mate?

Yeah, thats what I meant

well, its exactly 1 year old this month, I would hope a battery lasts longer than that! Its been ridden nearly every day during that time too.

Used daily I would have thought it would last longer.

But you say it isn't holding a charge? What sort of distance is your regular journey? enough to charge it fully do you think?

A new battery would be around the £50 mark, so I'd replace it anyway, if they gonna charge you £50 to look at it under warranty ...

Does sound like poor service though. But that doesn't surprise me, being a new bike owner meself, once I got the bike, their service has been less than adequate, suffice to say I will never go to that particular dealer again.

Yeah, its about 40 mins journey each way around, 11miles.

Bit of a shame, more and more business these days forget about customer service, I mean bikers are more likely to know what they are talking about.

Massive pain in the arse is all, especially considering they arent cheap! I think I will probs just replace it myself, but I wont be using that dealer once the service plan is done.

Hey, your username rings a bell but I cant quite remember, something Varadero related anyway. If they are saying those other two things need adjusting, they should do them free of charge under the warranty, and especially as was only in for its service recently like you said. I have to say my Honda dealership are no better. When I had my Varadero which I had bought brand new from them, they were not that interested in helping me when I had a couple of issues. Its like they have the nice shiny showroom, some of the best bikes in the world, but is just the sale that interests them, their aftercare is a bit weak in my opinion.

Yeah, I was looking to get a link pipe made up for a Devil exhaust on the Vara.

I have just checked the documentation, it was serviced exactly 2 months ago and I have done around 700 miles in that time.

To be honest its just shoddy and I wont be taking my business back there again. Simple.

I learnt the same with my car (a 2000 e320 cdi merc) that unless I do ALL the work on it myself, its simply impossible to find somebody who knows what they are doing on it, without trying out different parts on my expense. Since then, I have learnt more than most garages will know about the specifics on my car, and I intend to do the same on the bike. Shame I was sucked in by the service plan.

Aha yes!

I bought a top box from you a fair bit of time ago now! In fact the key snapped in the lock recently, so I fitted some quick release clasps as it lives on the back of the bike most of the time anyway!
