Guest Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 my bike gsxr 600 k 7 lost all electric s while on the way home. Rac turned up and it was the 30 amp fuse which had blown. The rac man said he would follow me home. I got half way then all the electric s went mad and the bike cut out. The fuse was ok but the battery had lost its charge. We put some charge into it and i got it home. For some reason it has stopped charging. It was suggested that the regulator may be bolloxed. What do you guys think as i ve never had a problem with the battery and im useless with mechanics . . Thanks in advance Quote
Stu Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 sounds like the reg/rec to me sounds like its over charged popping the fuse and the same on way home then its give up completely sometimes it can screw the battery Quote
Guest Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 HiYou really need a multi meter http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DIGITAL-LCD-MULTI ... 3065wt_958to check what voltage the bike is giving in different statesie ignition on/off and whilst the bike is running.(Cables from voltmeter across the battery terminals)I would first check all the earth cables are secure and no corrosion, I am guessing that the rac checked the battery terminals to make sure they are secure. But then again we are talking about the RAC here.If the battery is not giving the correct voltage, especially when running then I would start looking at the regulator/rectifier.You should be getting above 13v from the bike when running. Guest Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 thanks for that. The guy checked the voltage when he put the fuse back in and it was 13 volts. However he did nt check it while it was running and when i stopped for the 2nd time it only had 6 volts left. After re charging we started up the bike and it had 12 volts but it showed it was not putting any charge back in. When i got home there was not enough power to turn the engine over. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 its either the alternator or the regulator/rectifier i would go with alternator as normall when rectifier goes down it tends to overcharge the battery.check all the connections first and make sure its not just dodgy connector plug Quote
