BoB3rt Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 ok so scuffed and banged my £300 baby on the track so it's new lid time! However I know it's all about the fit but am thinking of getting two now; road and track. looking for opinions of good cheaper helmets for the track (not an AGV fan - plus dnt fit well) rather than £300 a pop wen I come off, if I do not like am planning onit but it happens. and get a decent road one. but... if am going faster on track am better with the more expensive (assuming better built) lid to save my life?! so am bit stuck? or just get one lid coz u can get hit on road as much as come off on track. Constructive opinions? Cheers! Quote
griff488 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hi mate check out the Sharp helmet reports. Its a newish scheme that rates helmets with 1-5 stars. you'd be supprised at how many £300 helmets only get 2-3 stars and how many cheap lids get 4-5 stars Quote
techno Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 If your intent on more exclusive makes how about end of line ones that maybe reduced, peraonally I wont buy a lid that expensive cos I dont think there worth it.I just bought my most expensive lid this weekend £160 reduced to £128.But theres plenty of good quality cheaper lids out there just do a bit of reseach and you should have no probs finding 2 for what you paid for 1. BoB3rt Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 Indeed my old man has a suomy and they have quite a name for themselves now. I will check there rating and pop down a local shop to get a fitting. There only about £150-200.. but want to keep it low. Cheers! Quote
Guest philgale Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 i just use the one i crashed in im sure i didnt bang my head on any of the offs i've had so ill happily use them again.crashing in my £500 arai and still use it as my sunny track/road lid, got a shoei i use if its raining and another shoei which has an intercom fitted for two up riding.when i get a new lid ill prob just buy a plain one, spend decent money to get a good one but not £500 again i wouldn't go spending £300 again, like techno says get an end of line one or plain colour one and then get it painted how you want it, coz lets face it you are gonna come off again if you want to get faster on track. BoB3rt Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 see now i thought about using the same lid again because i dnt remember banging my head i just heared it getting scuffed along the floor... however is it really worth the risk? is there any way to check if there is cracks through it ovbiously if i looks ok from the outsided. al try taking the linning out, still i think i would preffer a decent lid for the road as there is alot more to bounce off and hit... i suppose other than your bike or someone elses bike your ok on the track. unless its a high-side with a headfirst to the floor (which gives me a shiver thinking about it) still am looking at the £200 mark and looking at suomys still btw phil i replied to my angelsey thread in the track section but you can prob guess wah happened haha.thanks peeps! If its an Arai, they can inspect the lid and x ray it to check its safe. Not sure about shoei. If I was you i'd just replace it. Quote
