Its killing me knowing ive failled something! Im not looking for a way out of my failings BUT how much did not knowing a single road in darlington and taking my test there , influenced or factored in my fail?

Reason i ask is im thinking of switching school to darlington as they go directly on test routes

Do whatever you need to do to get you through it!

think it's wrong that the instructors didn't take you on a test route!!!

Anyway glad your thinking about it now!

I reckon it must be easier to be on a familiar route so less surprises and you can concentrate more on what the other drivers are doing. You'll probably feel better next time as you had the other bad news on your mind.

Good luck for next time..........

sorry mate but i dont think you can blame not knowing the test route. All roads have the same rules and regulations. Its upto you to read the road ahead and all signs and percieve the hazards ahead. Go and take your test again and concentrate fully. Sometimes it may help you concentrate harder if you dont know the route. Good luck whatever you decide

yes i agree but its like when you dont know a new town or city you drive in, trying to take everything can usually lead to info overload. Unless you have encylopedic knowledge that you can recall in a nanosecond about the rules and regulations or the road i think most people will struggle unless they are familiar and dont require having to think about every road system.

i understand what your saying steve but your examiner needs to know that your gonna keep you and others safe on the roads even in a strange town. Unfortunately thats just the way it is and thats the test we have so pass. It will defo be worth it in the end so get it passed then all the fun will begin

I have to agree with kersh, people fail going on roads near where they live, I did went somewhere different and failed again but that was to do with the fact my brain sometimes mixes left and right lol

However i passed on alien to me roads, its just a road when you pass your gonna encounter many different ones.

Good luck next time.

Talked to my instructor about this. Upshot was that if you know the roads you are more likely to switch off or do something you do in your car which is a bad habit and wrong.

Riding in a new area keeps you alert and on your toes. Did mine in a new area and passed. Just takes time and a bit of luck.

Sorry to hear that mate, I felt bad enough when I failed mod 1, and that was cheap and all over in 5 minutes. (My mod 2 route took me right past my own front door, though!!)

At the end of the day you do need to be able to ride safely whether you know the road or not, and most of the rides you'll go on to enjoy later will be on new roads you're not already familiar with. So focus on what the examiner picked up on his ride report sheet, and try not to think about "what if?" you'd been elsewhere.

It'll be worth it in the end, promise... ;)

the roads i will be going on are roads ive never been down before,

my test area is no where near where i live,

i thought it would be easier if it was done near me but like said on here your so used to them you dont really think about it, maybe its better finding roads you dont no that make you think more about them,

Perhaps it wasn't so much the route, as what went on that day. As I recall you had a bit of bad news :(

My test route took me on roads that I'd never been on before and I passed my MOD2, I think it's more to do with state of mind, all roads are the same and you should be able to deal with anything that gets thrown at you (just avoid flying 2x4's ).

Just remember, they cant fail you if you don't do anything incorrectly or dangerously, always try to make progress but stay safe while doing it, try and show confidence even if you're not. Fumbling to change gear while stationary at the lights on green because you forgot to knock it down before stopping doesn't make you look good
