Why are the huge metal girders that hold top boxes on rated at 6kg load when you can get boxes that are rated at 10kg load?

Can you actually get uprated racks??

Nope. It's all to stop the companies being sued. They're scared that if you go over a hard pothole, with this rack/topbox in use, then it gives. Most racks and topbox's are strong enough to hold 70KG+ easily. For example, the rack on the bandit has a 'rating' of about 8kg. However I use it (when the topbox is off) to lift the back of the bike up and to manouver it around in tight spaces.

If it looks strong enough and you trust it, then you can exceed the 'limit' and you'll be fine. Otherwise, you couldn't even carry a decent chain on almost all racks.

Topbox's are rated higher because they're only stopping the internals falling backwards, so a small force is applied to them, as the weight is transfered verticaly to the rack. If anything is to go normaly the rack is the 1st.

Anyway, you'll know all that, so in reply to your original question. No, or not that i've heard of, as they aren't required in most cases. :)

It just seemed odd I mean it looks strong enough to be able to carry a small child at least
