High revving and oil smelling of fuel?

Hi folks can anyone tell me why there is a smell of fuel in my oil? Is this piston rings not sealing properly? If it is I know it's a big problem!!! Will it cost much to get this fixed? Also, when riding the revs are staying up when changing gears and not dropping straight away. I was advised this was an air problem. I have changed air filter, changed air inlet tube which was a bodge job when I got the bike but it's still the same? Cleaned carb, new jet and float levelis ok. What I have noticed is the carb/ throttle slide spring is bent? Should this be like this? Plug is still very sooty so running too rich. I have set up pilot screw to the correct setting as in the haynes manual and plug gap is right? Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

I have just had a similar thing. Turned out to be a bent intake valve. Does it smell very strong after running an revving it a little? Try checking your valve clearances. At the least, it would narrow that out. Is the down pip from all cylinders hot? thats another sign of problems if one is not

Hi mate, downpipe and cylindar gets hot very quickly. When I start her up she revs straight up to about 7 rpm so have to switch bike off to stop it red lining. Tried to drop oil to put some fresh stuff in but bolts wont budge  just to get me to garage next week. As for valve clearences etc I'm not confident with doing that. Thanks.

You need to check cylinder compression first with a pressure gauge or compression tester. If compression is low, it may be due to leaking valves, spark plug or rings. Drain oil and sniff for petrol. Put fresh oil in, run engine and redrain and sniff. If still petrol smell, you have leaking rings and money to find for new rings and possibly more. May just be a faulty fuel tap leaking fuel into carbs and engine.

Carb spring is ok bent as long as slide shuts ok.

Hi Megawatt. Long time no speak  Don't really know how to do tests and valve clearences etc so garage I think :( Is it an expensive job? Can't undo oil bolts so can't drain oil. Bike is a Suzuki GS125 D by the way!

Put it in the garage and pick it up tomorrow. Mechanic said it was the carb leaking! Hopefully it won't cost me much!!! Thanks.
