jabcrosshook Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Good Evening Ladies & Gents Tomorrow or Friday, I will be off buying a new jacket, a leather one too this time round. I'll be heading off to Hein Gericke first, then J&S if I don't have any luck there (both in Doncaster)Having never bought a leather jacket before, I've previously just had textile, what should I be looking out for tomorrow (or Friday) in a jacket or fit? Is there anything in Hein Gericke I should pay particular attention too?Any general advice?Cheers. Quote
cruz Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 If you intend to wear all year round a removable liner is a bonus and remember you will wear thicker clothing in winter. also as few seams as possable.Oh yes 2 arms are useful Quote
Stuno1 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Make sure it has all the armour you want in it and that it is a snug fit. Also, ask the sales people as they will offer advice depending on what you are looking for and your budget :0)Stu Quote
Capitano Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Avoid velcro fastenings.A good leather jacket will last for you for years, decades even...far longer than velcro will remain useful as a fastening.Personally I'd buy a "classic" black one rather than something more current and fashionable, then you'll continue to want to wear it. It's no use having something that is made to last if you become embarrassed to wear it after a few years. I remember seeing a pristine white 80s style leather jacket with "Hartog" emblazoned on the back that was getting no interest at a car boot sale, even though it was only a few quid. It probably cost its owner a tidy sum when it was bought, too. Quote
queen bodecia Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Fit is the most important factor.Other than that look for jackets with elbow and shoulder armour, kevlar inserts, triple overlooped stitching and with as few panels as possible (colours/styling should be overstitched panels). If it's not the same brand as your trousers, make sure you have both halves of the connecting zip so you can get it stitched into your trousers to fasten them both together.Make sure you can wear it comfortably with your back protector (or that it has an integral back protector). Also try it with your gloves sitting on your bike to make sure it fits your arms correctly. Quote
