jamesd1981 Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 hi guys looking for some experienced advice my suzuki gsx 600 has developed a problem today, the fuel system has 3 settings reserve - on- pri according to the manual normal modes are on or reserve but when i run in these modes after a couple of miles i lose power the bike backfires and cuts out, then it will only restart when i set the fuel mode to pri and pull the choke out then it will run fine until i switch back to any of the two normal modes, can anyone give me an idea of the problem ? eastanglianbiker Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 check vacumm hose that runs from just in front of number one carb on left of engine to fuel tap as it sounds like the vacum has stop, check to make sure hose is on correctly at both ends and it hasnt split or perished,if it is then the diaphram in the fuel tap might of given up Quote
jamesd1981 Posted May 28, 2011 Author Posted May 28, 2011 thanks eastanglianbiker i will check those out can you tell me in the meantime, the manual says it can be harmful to leave it on pri setting when the bike is not running but is it ok to run the bike with it on pri and just turn it off when i switch off Quote
megawatt Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 You can run it on prime, but if you leave it on you risk filling your engine with fuel and hydraulic locking a cylinder and possibly serious damage to the engine. Not common ,but possible. Quote
jamesd1981 Posted May 28, 2011 Author Posted May 28, 2011 thanks also megawatt, i will use the prime carefully if i have to. Quote
