XmisterIS
I just noticed this evening that when I have the throttle wound back I get a bit of black smoke. Normal? Or problem? It doesn't seem to affect the bike at all.

XmisterIS
It's unrestricted. What might be causing it to run rich?

XmisterIS
Hmm .. Ok, I have a couple of things to check there, thanks! It was supposed to have had a service a couple of months ago, but I didn't think much of the guy who did it, I think he may have ripped me off! Guest
Could it be just the cac in the exhaust being blown off? Does it do it just once on a ride. The two stroke I had smoked nicely If it does it more than once a ride then I would have it looked at, may be loads of things. Can you tell if its petrol or oil ? They smell different. I know the exhaust is behind you!! Get a mate to follow you ( give them a health warning too!! ).
XmisterIS
It doesn't do it very often, but it does do it a few times during a ride. It could well be the air filter, I've been cutting concrete blocks using a circular masonry saw recently and boy does it produce a huge amount of incredibly fine dust! Last time I forgot to close the garage door.

Martyc
Could it be a slight miss-fire causing incomplete combustion occasionally under load giving off the black smoke? If it was doing it consistently then I'd be more inclined towards the filter, but it would have to be filthy for that, plus how would much dust get in the filter unless the bike was running at the time to draw it in? Just my probably wrong two penneth
