JamieK Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 im planing to change the tank pad on mine, is it just a case of heat the old one up and peel off and then polish the tank?as i want to keep the old one in good condition so i can get it scanned in and get a new pad made up by a mate Quote
Stu Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 yes but not always that simple if there is any residue left that is hard to get off try a bit of wd40 just make sure you clean it off before you stick the old one on Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 they also sometimes lift the laquer off the tank as you remove them if you are not carefull Quote
Stu Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 when i got my bike someone had taken the tank pad off and its removed some of the laquer really hard to see unless you really look Quote
Decor58 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 If you're putting anther one on it shouldn't matter if a bit of laquer come off as the new one will cover it Quote
Fozzie Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Soak it in petrol, its what I did to an old one and it seemed to eat through the residue but leave my laquer alone...Just dont stand near it when you do it for too long... I was on my arse soon after wondering why I felt light headed and dizzy It then just peeled off when I got a bit of it up then put more petrol on it. Quote
