Guest Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Dropped my 3-month old YBR125 last week after a near-miss on the way to work. I had to call out the RAC to move the clutch back into place and they gave it a quick check-over, but apart from that I thought I’d got away with just a small scratch on the tail and a slightly bent clutch lever that’ll apparently be fine. Problem is, now I’ve started noticing a vibrating sort of noise coming from the left side (which is what I dropped the bike on) and I can’t work out exactly where it’s coming from. Somewhere near the foot peg I think...Are there any common ways bikes get damaged when they’re dropped that I could check for myself?Nothing’s leaking, no lights are on that shouldn’t be on, engine sounds good brakes and electrical working fine. It’s got engine protector bars. Thanks for any help! Quote
Fozzie Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Might be paranoia? I am the same way when I drop a bike. I think theres a new rattle or similar and usually there never actually is!But if its the foot peg area just make sure its on securely. Does the vibration increase with revs? Quote

I assumed it was paranoia for the first day or 2, but now I'm fairly sure it's real. I hope you're right though. But if its the foot peg area just make sure its on securely. Does the vibration increase with revs? Yup, it increases with revs. Foot peg itself seems fine, but I'll double-check it this evening. Quote
Carlos Von Brum Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Have you removed the front sprocket cover and checked for any loose hoses, cracks, grit etc? Maybe check the airbox is intact and nothing rattling around in there? Is the bottom fairing mount point OK, i.e not cracked? If so, Hellfrauds do resin you could patch it up with... Quote

I'd be checking the fairing mounts. I noticed some of them are pretty flimsy from my lads one when it was maliciously pushed over Quote
Ingah Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Check your engine mounts - around where the engine bars bolt to the engine. Quote
Guest Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 For the last couple of days, the rattlling has been fainter and coming from the other side completely, so I am going to chalk this one up to paranoia and listening more carefully after all Possibly the wind too. Yeah, the strong wind we had last week probably made the L plates flap around a bit extra or something... Anyway, thanks for all the help and now I'll know what to look for next time I drop it and think I hear a noise! Quote
