Guest Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 hi guys, just new to this site and hoping yous can help me. i have a 1996 cr250 and i just recently changed the clutch plates but soon as i put the bike back together i noticed the clutch doesnt spring back to the default possition now just flops about a bit, it DOES go into gear but obviously cant be driven. when i was changing the plates 3 of the bolts sheared that hold the pressure plate on. Could this be something to do with it? also th pin that goes straight through the plates doesnt seem to push up against anything as if i could push it right in, is this normal or is something wrong here? as you have probably already noticed im a bit of a beginner at this stuff so any advice would be much appreciated. thanks Quote
Tango Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Sounds like something is missing.....so a strip and investigate could be the order of the day here....I think you should try to replace the sheared bolts. The clutch plunger should operate on the Thrust bearing which will push the clutch plates and remove the pressure from them allowing the clutch to slip. But there should be springs that the plunger is pushing against that forces the plates together when you let the clutch out. There is something very wrong here and I think you can't avoid a strip down of the clutch.....replace the broken bolts and check the mechanism against the drawings in the manual.Good Luck..... Quote
Guest Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 ok thanks for the reply, are you meaning the springs(think its six or more) that hold on the pressure plate? yes a definitely will try replace the bolts, going to be a pain tho as the sheared part is still stuck in the thread so going to have to drill them out and maybe tap them bigger Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 will reply in here rather than the post in bike chat i gress you definatly need to get the 3 sheared bolts changed if you can drill them out carefully then you will need to replace the plate they go into Quote
Guest Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 thanks for reply i think im just going to take it down to the local bike garage and get it all sorted and let them deal with the sheared bolts because will be a pain to get out Quote
