Guest Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Ok this has probably been threaded to death before but i've never thought about let alone organised a ride. As some of you may know my late brother (ade38) passed on november last year of pneumonia brought on after a long battle with leukemia, but we did talk about a charity ride for the royal marsden hospital when he was recovering. The question is has anyone on the forum organised anything similar before and if so any pointers would be of great helpthanks for reading i hope ive posted this in the correct section ant Quote
Stu Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Ive been involved a little but not a lot make sure its all above board and its a registered charity your collecting for etc pick a meeting place and route to ride and a finish point inform the police too if the numbers are going to be high then spread the word there is online systems you can use now for collecting like justgiving hope that helps and im sure there will be others with a lot more info Quote
Stu Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 oh and dont do it in the middle of bloody winter as most people seem to Quote
Guest Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 cheers stu im only really in the early stages of planning its definately a registered charity and will most likely be middle of next year its the destination im unsure of as the plan was to take some of his ashes to the ring but i think thats a bit brave of a run Quote
RiffmasterII Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 I might be up for joining you if the dates can fit in around my shifts, taking your brothers ashes to the ring sounds like a cool idea and, to me, doesnt sounds like a brave run at all, think its just over 250 miles from Calais. Quote
Guest Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 The forum did a ride for children in need, from Edinburgh Castle to Ace Cafe - but was in winter and freeezing!!Im happy to help you organise it Because we have members the length and breadth of the UK you can arrange a big route and people from each location can dip in and do the bits near their area... or like some did with Pudsey, do the whole trip!Pm me ideas and we will get our heads together Make it the summer! Guest Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 sorry ive not replied as late work consisting of driving all over and only home one night a week is awkward. Have been discussing with family members and taking the ashes to the ring would mean splitting them so theyre all going to a beach in cornwall. But im still going to start the planning of this which pencilled in im thinking from the royal marsden hospital in sutton to the ring. I'm still yet to contact the hospital for permissions etc of starting there and all the rest so will need all the help i can but the aim is to raise awareness of leukemia and of course even if its just pennies towards the amazing hospital that helped my brother through til the end Quote
