Guest Hodgy Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 You don't have to retake your cbt when you're 17 if you do it on a 50cc when you're 16.I don't think you can do your A1 at 16 though, you'll need to wait till your 17 and do it on a 125cc bike Quote
Bonniebird Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Hi KyleWelcome to the forum. No you don't have to retake your CBT at 17. If, like my daughter, you go from a 50cc scooter to a 125cc geared bike at 17, it's worth taking some time around a carpark or similar to get used to the clutch and gears. If you can get someone to give you a bit of extra tuition at this stage then, so much the better. It isn't just about legality but safety. If you stick on the forum, I'm sure you'll have no difficulty in finding someone local to you who would be happy to helpThe A1 has to be taken on a reasonably powered bike such as a 125 and you aren't alowed to ride one on the road until you are 17 so, I don't think you can take it at 16.Hope this helpsMandy Quote
Tango Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Hi Kyle.....there is a lot of information in the CBT,Mod1/Mod2 section of the forum which you may find useful. My understanding is that if you pass the CBT at 16 it is for 2 years before you have to take it again. But I think that you need to be 17 in order to take the Mod1/Mod2 test. So it really depends on what you want to do. If you pass your CBT at 16 you can then ride a restricted bike up to 50cc until you are 17. You can then ride a 125cc bike (but be careful as not all 125's are suitable for taking the Mod1/Mod2 on) without having to retake your CBT until it expires at the 2 year anniversary of the last time you passed it.I'm sorry but I'm no expert on this as I passed my bike test 35 years ago....and things have changed in that time.... Good Luck......Bob Quote
