Advice on the size+make of new chain + sprockets Gilerarcr50

Hi,

I just had my bike MOTed and to my surprise it passed! I was advised to get a new chain and sprocket as the chain is slightly worn and the sprockets are "hooked" (not a great deal but enough for an advisory) so i am basically wondering firstly what size is best for a 50cc as i know different sprockets effect the speed/acceleration - as the bike has a history of over heating I'd prefer acceleration over top speed as i assume faster = hotter (correct me if thats incorrect). Secondly what make is a good make.

The bike is a gilera rcr 50 which has the same dimensions in the sprocket department as the derbi senda 50 and the aprilla rx 50.

Thanks I'd be greatful of your advice!

You would be best to search for a chain and sprocket kit for your exact model and year of bike, eBay probably cheapest. Go for a good make, DID, EK, AFAM. Don't buy the cheapest Chinese crap, made from butter. See if they offer smaller front or bigger rear sprockets if you want better acceleration, only reduce by one tooth on the front, but I doubt this would reduce your engine temperature?

Yes, faster = hotter, but that is engine speed, not bike speed!

20 MPH at 9000 revs will create the same heat as 30MPH at 9000 revs.

In fact, at a higher speed you will get more airflow and actually run cooler.

By putting a better accelerating sprocket on, it will rev out quicker and be sat at a lower speed, with the engine screaming it's face off (mind as a 50 they all do that anyway, no matter what)

Put in the standard sprocket sizes.
