Guest Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I am having a new paint job. Panels are at Dream Machine as we talk.I would be happy to list and price everything if you wish. Thanks for the praise!!Sometimes when you are covered in alloy dust it is nice to have a few nice comments to make it all worth while. Guest Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 So so much cheaper than taking a car apart...!!!Looking good though!! Quote
Guest Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Thanks, cant do or show any more till panels come back...........so started another project!! Quote
Guest Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Oh stop it, I'll start being an equiring wannabe engineer and the next thing I know I'll have a billion bits of bike on the drive.... and that'd do my landlady's nut (she's banned landrovers because of the habit students have of taking them apart!)So, whats the next one? Quote
Guest Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Secret is to do a little and then put it back on!!Its amazing how little a room a bike takes up when its all in bits. Quote
Guest Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Did that with Suzi - whole front end off courtasy of a landy, then put the bits back in. No need to touch the engine, just the radiator and the bumper!!Tempted to do what we did with the Suzis with a bike, it'll be much cheaper, even if I do need parts!Only problem is, working from two smashed up bikes and sticking them back together without a working one to work from! Guest Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 need a bit of techy know how.I learnt a few years ago by buying a rat bike and pulling it completely to bits and rebuilding.Took a long time but not worried any more.Just a matter of elimination!! Quote
houdini Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Nice to see someone getting thier hands dirty and enjoying it. Im not gonna go that far but spring is the time for my upgrades, just got to afford em now lol. Quote
Guest Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Keep going Stuart its looking really good,Keep the pics Coming and you'll be the envy of us all Quote
Guest Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I have moderate techy know how - one of my best modules last year was Mechanics (proof that sleeping through lectures is, in fact, a viable method of learning!) and I adored building suzi!!I've been gagging to tear punto apart and make some improvements... my old punto had a battered exhaust (bad Kat, off-roading puntos!!) and new punto doesn't sound at all nice by comparison. But it's not a project, it's an investment, so I can't touch it lest I reduce the value (except to re-align the bumper) Quote
Guest Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 stu who did the powder coating on ya wheels ? and how much just for them.im after mine done in white Quote
Guest Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I can get them done for you if you want as the lads know me if you know what I mean. They charged me £50 for both and that included blasting, coating and laquered too.You would have to get them to me somehow. They took 4 days to do.Let me know if you need any help, always happy to assist!! Guest nigelf Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 did you replace the bearings on the wheels and bottom yoke? cos they will not be as good now from the heat in the coating process.SSS in Bingley did mine for the goldwing for 120 quid.Elf Quote

Guest Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I wouldnt do them.Dont know whether you got the wrong idea but I only do my own bike.I am not a mechanic.I will help you get your powder coating done but that is all.Bearings is easy though. Quote

To remove bearings even with the correct equipment means smacking the hell out of them. This would put undue stress on them and for what they cost, you might as well fit new ones. Once youve got the old ones out you can then use them to fit the new ones. Its easy to fit bearings by the way, and just a little more difficult to remove them, unless they fall apart in which case its a nightmare. Quote
dex Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Awesome job you're doing Makes the work on mine seem a little half-hearted.....(no, must put the bike back together and ride it!) Quote
