Guest Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Hi guys, newbie here, hoping to become fully fledged biker soon.I passed my MOD1 on a 500 last December, they couldn't get me a MOD2 any time soon because of Christmas holidays, so I decided to wait until the weather improved for taking MOD2, so I had this little prang on my 125 and lost my bottle. Now it's October and the weathers getting crappy and I really wanna get it passed before I move to Jersey in February, I figure sooner is better weather wise...I can't remember the orders and small details for turning in all situations.... So i'm hoping you guys can help. I remember at traffic lights you do a 4 point check before pulling away and leave a motorbike length gap between you and vehicle in front. I remember lane changing is mirrors, signal, lifesaver, change lane. Both mirrors whenever you see a pedestrian crossing and before you touch your breaks. I think Minor to Major roads, if left, mirror, signal, left lifesaver, pull to left of lane, stop, check traffic (left, right, left), left lifesaver, pull away, and then mirror that for turning right? Is that right? Also, turning from Major to Minor... I can't remember if you pull over to the side of the lane you're turning, or if you maintain your central position... So I think you maintain for left turns and pull over to the centre line for right turns? So you need an extra lifesaver for right turns? I.E, left turn is; mirror, signal, lifesaver, turn and right turn is; mirror, signal, lifesaver, position to centre line, lifesaver, turn....Sorry for an over long post, but better to be specific than cause confusion. I hope you guys don't mind.Cheers, Tabbit Quote

Is that right? What do you mean by 4 point check? Both mirrors, and both shoulders? If so, I was told at traffic lights, its just mirror checks. Only if you're leaving the side of the road do you check all round. Remember to check your mirrors before you speed up as well. For the turns yes that's ok, I assume by you typing 'mirror' you know to check both rather than singular? I figure you do, but it's always worth asking, lol. Also, if you can see the junction is clear, you don't need to stop. Just do your preperation, check it's clear, lifesaver and if safe, go. Watch your positioning if it's quite a narrow road though for turning right, better to be central, or you'll interfere with anyone trying to turn into that junction .Also, turning from Major to Minor... I can't remember if you pull over to the side of the lane you're turning, or if you maintain your central position... I.E, left turn is; mirror, signal, lifesaver, turn and right turn is; mirror, signal, lifesaver, position to centre line, lifesaver, turn.... Yeah that's fine. You want to be about a foot off the white line, so your bars don't cross over itSorry for an over long post, but better to be specific than cause confusion.
