Direct Access courses (DAS) are specifically to get your full license......which, given your age, would mean you could ride an unrestricted bike after passing. The test has to be taken on a 500cc or bigger bike to qualify I think.... 8-)

It's 46bhp or bigger, nothing to do with cc. But as from January 2013 it's 595cc or bigger, nothing to do with bhp.

DAS simply means doing CBT, theory, module 1 and 2 on a 'big' bike (46bhp/600cc) and you can ride any bike. Some schools do intensive courses over a week or so that encompass it all but it's normaly much more expensive that way, depends on individual prices and circumstances tho.

I stand corrected.......didn't have any of this stuff when I did my test.....nice and simple....any bike up to 250cc on L-plates...then any bike once you passed your test.....

It changes every 5 minutes, it's crazy! I have been looking to do mine for a few years, so have seen things change loads, finally got around to it now tho. Next October you'll probably need to do it on a horse drawn penny farthing :?

been looking found a place with good rep near me. is this any good 2 price packages

Direct Access 500

includes CBT and 14 hours of on-road tuition-£500

includes CBT and 18 hours of on-road tuition-£610

Package prices include use of the motorcycle for both modules of the practical test, but do not include the test fees.

On-road tuition is normally split into two-hour sessions. So, for example, 14 hours becomes six two-hour sessions plus an hour just before each module of your test. Note that it also includes use of the bike on the tests

i will basicly have a budget of about a grand .

I paid:

Theory £31

CBT £105

Mod 1 £15.50

9 hour lesson day of mod 1 £105 (used the bike for mod during lesson)

Mod 2 £75

9 hour lesson £105, again so I could use the bike for my mod 2. Mod 2 was at 14:26 ending circa 15:00, lesson over circa 16:30 making it a 8.5 hour lesson lol.

Total cost was therefore £436.50. Odd but I thought it was more :? Anyway, I knew it wasnt close to a grand!

Good call yeah!! I have some TCX boots, waterproof ones from the old george whites, £130 reduced from £190 and they are extreemly comfy, warm too :) Picked up leather gloves for £40 at the same time.

Was given a set of spidi leathers that are tatty but sound and fit a treat, I do want some nice ones next year tho lol.

Just need a lid now, I am using a Snell2000 one that is an american lid, I belive its not EU aproved but I have it for track days as they dont allow motorbike lids :? So I think Ill be buying a Nolan CF lid the week end for £200 reduced from £400, boxed and new from Honda main stealer.

So a grand should set you up nicely :D You cant spend too much on protective gear IMHO.

for my protective gear

hein gericke leather jacket and trousers from ebay for £40

j&s gloves - £40 (new)

rst boots - £70 (new)

hjc lid - £140 (new)

so all in all, fully set up for £290. the minimum you should be expecting to spend for protective clothing really is around £400 - but don't neglect it!
