keith565 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 well, just need to know when changing a sump oil seal gasket do i need to use anything else such as a sealer etc.long story, but i overfilled my sump and blew the gasket, glad it wasn't anything worse. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 you can smear a very light coating of proper gasket sealant round both faces of metal but if you have bought a genuine gasket and not a pattern one then it might already have a line of sealant round it Quote
Colin the Bear Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 It used to be recommended to smear the gasket with grease. It helps it to release next time and maybe get a couple of goes out of it. Don't know if it's appropriate here. Quote

Only ever had to take the sump off a bike once before......after I overdid the sump plug.......hence the reason I use a torque wrench all the time now..... Anyhoo.....most bikes these days will only need the gasket without any sealant.....gone are the bad old days of poorly machined mating surfaces..... Quote
