well, just need to know when changing a sump oil seal gasket do i need to use anything else such as a sealer etc.

long story, but i overfilled my sump and blew the gasket, glad it wasn't anything worse. :shock:

you can smear a very light coating of proper gasket sealant round both faces of metal but if you have bought a genuine gasket and not a pattern one then it might already have a line of sealant round it

It used to be recommended to smear the gasket with grease. It helps it to release next time and maybe get a couple of goes out of it. Don't know if it's appropriate here. 8-)

I guess that Keith is hoping not to have to take the sump off again.... :lol: :lol: Only ever had to take the sump off a bike once before......after I overdid the sump plug.......hence the reason I use a torque wrench all the time now..... :wink:


Anyhoo.....most bikes these days will only need the gasket without any sealant.....gone are the bad old days of poorly machined mating surfaces..... :wink:
