Guest Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I am having problems with my speedometer. It keeps registering the wrong speed. Basically I'll start the bike off and it'll tinker about between 0-10 MPH then when I start to get some real speed going, it'll start raising on the meter. We ran a test yesterday where I would stick at 45 MPH on a straight road with a friend behind me with a more accurate electronic speedometer. From the tests, 30MPH on my speed meter is actually 45MPH. 20MPH on the speedo is just above 30MPH. We couldn't get any readings below that as it would just tinker a lot from 0-10 if we went slower. The bike model is the Honda CG125 2005. We did clear out the speed gear at the wheel and cleared out any old grease and put in new stuff. We let it set till today, I took the bike out for a 10-20 minute ride and it still seems to be slow. Does anyone have an idea what would be wrong or have had a similar problem to this? I'd appreciate any help. Many Thanks. Quote
Stu Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 sounds like the drive on the cable is rounded or the drive gear on the front wheel is on its way out you need to remove both and inspect them Quote
Guest Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 We'v inspected both of them, thw driver gear is in good condition and the cable is also fine. Very frustrating problem :/ Quote
Stu Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 if they are fine the next one is the speedo you sure the cable hasn't snapped ? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 cable drive or speedo it self cant be anything else cable is cheapest to start with so change that first Quote
Guest Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Found the problem, something got into the speedometer somehow and has caused it to break mechanically.Would anyone happen to know where I could buy a new speedometer for my model? I'v took a look around but none the same :/ Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 david silver spares google them they will have it in stock i would of thought Quote
shadow_sniper Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Hi was it the clocks or the speedo gear itself?? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 the op that had the problem has not been back onto the forum since 2013 but judging by what he said something broke inside the main speedo itself causing it to stop working Quote
