Hello folks

I'm new to this site but I have been reading lots of posts and decided it is an environment where I could meet some other bike-loving enthusiasts.

My initial post though is a difficult one for me. I am returning to biking (and car driving) after a one year enforced absence. Yes, I am still ashamed to say that I was convicted of a drink driving offence in 2012. For 28 years I drove cars and for 10 years I rode bikes without as much as a parking ticket, then one moment of madness saw me lose it all. Please do not use this forum or this post to have a go at drink drivers, I can assure you I have hated myself for it every day since it happened.

So...onwards and upwards hopefully..........here is my situation.......

I live in Northern Ireland. I passed my car test in 1985 and my bike test in 2002. The bike test I did included a CBT theory test. I recently enquired about doing separate intensive driving courses to regain both licences but the driving school I spoke to (based in Scotland as I couldn't find any in N.Ireland to do intensive courses) briefly said that I may only need to do a test in either category in order to regain BOTH licenses. They said they had learners with a similar problem to me who simply did one test and got both licenses as a result. Can anyone say whether this is true or not? I had assumed that as they are different categories then I would need to do tests for both. And also, do I need to do a new CBT test for either/both tests?

I would be grateful for any help you can give.

Many Thanks

Chris

Hello and welcome :D

I'm sorry but I have no idea of the answer to your questions.

Is it still the DVLA in Swansea that deals with NI?

if so their web site might help.

There must be some training schools over there surely 1 of them could help

Hi Rennie

DVA in Swansea never did deal with N. Ireland. We have our own department of DVA in Coleraine.

I spoke to 2 different people there and got 2 completely different versions of what I need to do. That's civil servants for you!!! lol
