Hey guys,

I am based in the UK & want to learn to ride a bike. Was wondering whether anyone might be able to answer a couple of questions;

For a 125cc bike:

How long is the training & how much does it cost?

Which test do I need to take & how much does it cost?

For anything above a 125cc:

How long is the training & how much does it cost?

Which test do I need to take & how much?

I am 26, have been driving for 9 years with a full UK driving license with no points.

For a 125cc all you need is provisional licence and a CBT which is a days training costing around £100.

For over 125cc you'd have to do the CBT then DAS. Add about another 5/600 quid to the CBT cost - if you pass first time, usually need 3/4 days on the bikes

budget 2-300 for your own gear too (if you're prepared to Ebay it)

No set number of lessons, you can go straight to take test in theory. I had 5 or 6 full days from start to finish. Depends how you do. go to http://www.geton.co.uk and book yourself a trial ride

Also please put location in your profile and why not pop into Newbies and introduce yourself?

Thanks mate... so the 5/600 quid is for the Direct Access course, including the test at the end?! What happens is I fail and have to take the test again? Is it another £5/600 quid?

No no, it should be about 100 to do your CBT then about 500 quid will cover 3 days lessons and tests. Maybe 4. Depends where you go

if you fail you just pay the test fees and the school fees for bike hire and instructor to accompany you. Usually you have an hour or two on the bike pre-test to settle you down. Probably about 80 or 90 quid extra for a re-take.

Oh and you'll need your theory too. You can just brush up on the highway code and hazard awareness and take that whenever - book through the DVLA, think it was 32 quid

How old are you josh? That might make a big different in what you can do. If you are under 24 years old you wont be able to do DAS no matter how much money you have :(

He's 26.

No point using a 125 unless you'll be happy to stay on one forever.

Do your Bike Theory and CBT and go straight to DAS. All my tests including Theory/CBT & 3 day DAS (which included mod1/2 test fees 1 attempt) came in at a little over £650.
