went out for a run yesterday, got about 30 miles into the country and at 50mph the bike died, i don't mean cut out i mean died. everything, no electrics, nothing.

managed to pull up ok (had swmbo on back). :up:

turned ignition off then back on again, nothing, no lights, no LED display nada. did this a couple of times then got all lights etc back on. however, it would turn over fine, but not fire up.

so had to call BMW breakdown and get them to arrange recovery to my local BMW dealers. all in all over 3 hours stuck in the middle of nowhere, wind howling and no shelter. lovely ride out. :crybaby:

got to wait for a call to see what problem is. so glad it is still under warranty. :booty:

and got my new comfort seat coming today :twisted:

I do not like this post!!!


I thought BMWs didn't break down. Let me know what the cause is, just in case. Aside from that, I asked at my local BMW if we were getting a recall about this fueling problem that they are recalling for in the US, but told not yet, but my bike has apparently missed a brake recall, hanging on to see if I can get both done together to save taking it in twice. Has yours been recalled for this and do you know what it is? Can't be too serious.

i read about the recall.

i'm sure it said they would be doing the replacement at the service rather than a full recall.

but no recall or suggestion of any notice at my local BMW dealer that they are going to do anything yet.

the fault turned out to be a worn fuel pump control unit.

replaced under warranty and had new Tyre fitted at same time.

seems to be running ok now.

Hi 4 of my mates on GS1200's set off on a trip through Europe the other year 3 carried a spare black box which l sure was related to the fuel system and all 3 failed. BMW in resent years have lost there long establish reputation for reliability. Then again l had a front wheel bearing failure on my Bimota, on stripping the wheel down l found that the Altera wheels were fitted with Chinese bearings Great!!

turns out it was the fuel pump control unit, was fixed the following day and seems to be running fine now.

all i know is they said it was a worn fuel pump control unit, bike only has 26900 miles on it. :crybaby:
