isutty5 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Hi guys,I'm buying a new DID chain and sporcket set for my 2012 YBR 125, but I would also like to know what tools I need to buy in order to do the job myself. I don't have a lot of tools so I would like to purchase the tools that will do the job. Don't want expensive tools though. Just need something that will allow me to remove the chain and sprockets and put a new one back on. I have tools to remove the wheel so that shouldn't be an issue.Any help will be appreciated Thank You. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 you will need correct size socket to undo front sprocket and to do it back up again apart from that if it is a soft link type chain you will need a chain splitter/angle grinder and then a chain link rivetter and of course the correct size socket for removing and replacing rear sprocket Quote
GaryJM Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Would also suggest thread lock and torque wrench for doing the nuts on the rear sprocket and the one on the front one Quote
Adam Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Buy the best tools you can afford, you'll need them again at some point so see it as an investment. But as others have said you'll need the correct size sockets to fit the bolts on the sprockets and the sprocket cover at the front also you'll need a spanner for the nuts on the back of the sprocket (you might not so double check) . I did mine recently for the first time, took me about an hour it's really easy to do. I used thread lock as suggested above but make sure it's not the permanent one otherwise when you need to change them again you'll struggle, the one I got basically gives it extra strength and stops the bolt/nut vibrating lose. I didn't use a torque thingy either I just done the bolts up in the words of EastAnglianBiker as tight as f**k! Good luck! Quote
