Idling way too low?

Hello all,

I just bought a 2010 Yamaha XT 125 R - it didn't work when I got it (four days ago) but I've managed to get it running. The first time I started it, it ran and idled fine but it's subsequently idling at ridiculously low RPM (rev-counter is dodgy at the moment, but it looks to be reading less than 800 RPM) and keeps stalling if I don't keep the throttle going. It's also becoming quite reluctant to start now without me giving it a bit of throttle. It seems to rev perfectly, but just won't idle!

I've looked around elsewhere on the ole' interweb, and most people recommend adjusting carb... My problem is that my bike is injected, so I can't play around with floats etc!

I'm not mechanically trained, so please feel free to treat me like a bit of an idiot... Any help you chaps can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

whre the throttle cable comes out of the twist grip is there an adjuster on it there otherwise ther could be one where it is connected to throttle body or will be a screw on the side of the throttle body

Normally an idle speed adjuster is part of the throttle cable or a seperate one that you screw into the carb with a flat bladed screwdriver. Both of them lift the throttle slide or open the butterfly slightly. The tickover should be at the lowest revs possible without hunting. Cure the hunting by adjusting the pilot air screw or jet. 800RPM isn't that low.

Ok thanks, I'll have a look at those areas as soon as I can - and I agree, 800 RPM wouldn't really bother me if it could keep itself running at that speed!

Thanks for all the help

Right, I seem to have cured the cutting out problem - there was a small hose that should have been connected to the injector that... Well, wasn't. Thanks for all the advice! However, I'm smelling burning after a minute or so of running - it smells like it's coming from the spark plug region, or that side of the engine at least... Anyone have any suggestion as to why that might be? :)

No oil or water - I think it may just have been grime etc. burning off as the smell pretty much stopped once I gave the whole area (including the spark plug ) a good clean, and it hadn't been started in a long time before yesterday. I'll definitely look out for oil/water though: gasket failure is definitely not something I want to have, but at least I may be able to diagnose it! Thanks for the tip!

If you have cleaned/sprayed anything that gets warm with wd40 it smells of burning when the engines running. Untill its burned away
