Speedfight 100 carb settings problem?

Hello all.

I've had my speedfight 100 for 2 months now which is my first bike/scooter and at first it had good acceleration and also had a good top end speed. I got it to about 65-70mph on the clock (not sure about true speed) although it was hard to start in the cold.

So it was all working fine then about a month ago I had to take it to the garage because the tail light wasn't working and the wiring was knackered and they never found out what the problem was so they decided to wire it up to the number plate light. Then as I was pulling away to leave the garage it didn't want to go and I had to twist the throttle fair bit more than normal. Before that it would start moving pretty much as soon as I started to turn the throttle. I just thought it would sort itself out which it has a little but it's not the same and I've lost top end speed. Probably about 10mph.

Although they weren't supposed to I'm feel like they changed the carb or idle settings or something. I was advised to pre-mix by the previous owner and the garage said it was too smokey so that could be why they changed something? The reason for it being smokey was because the previous owner had not been using the scoot for a while and possibly put too much oil in and I hadn't filled it up myself at that point. It wasn't half as smokey after I filled up for petrol. Also I'm getting about 60-70 miles per tank which seems lower than I thought I'd get.

Also I changed the oil I was using from castrol power 1 2t semi synthetic to silkolene scoot sport 2 fully sythetic about 3 weeks ago which hasn't changed much performance wise but for the last few days I've now got a smell of petrol coming from the exhaust.

So to cut a long story short. What do you guys think this could be? do I need to adjust the carb settings maybe and it has an open air filter so would that need to be taken into consideration also.

Thanks

Best to check your spark plug fella.

Sounds to me like wrong mixture but you mentioned that it hadn't be used for a while by the previous owner.

I have found that modern petrol is deteriorating a lot quicker than it used to. So the carb might need cleaning out. Not too sure on the science behind it, just my opinion.

Also check air filter.

Thanks guys,

I've never touched anything on a scooter so I don't know a lot about anything yet but I will check those things you mentioned and see how it goes. I bought some air filter oil so when that comes I'll clean the filter and see if that helps.

Is cleaning the carb difficult to do? I know it's a dellorto carb if that matters? cheers

Cleaning the carb is not is difficult as it sounds.

There is tons of guide videos on how to do it.

All it is is strip down, clean and then put it back how you found it.
