Hi.

Looking to do my A2 in August (that's when I'll be 19) I currently have CBT only (passed Sept 2013) and will be doing my theory soon!

So I phoned up the riding school and asked to do an A2. The guy asked me what I have already done, to which I responded "my CBT in September 2013". He said "you need to do A1 and A2 then"

I didn't think I needed to do A1, just A2 as long as I have done a theory test and a CBT!

He said that I shouldn't do A1 now because that will only be applicable for 125's, but you can do A1 when you are 19 on a 650 and do the test, then go on to A2 a day or two later.

It all seemed a bit confusing to me!

I've been looking at this: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... icence.pdf

If you look under the A2 category, I fit the top branch (provisional, CBT & theory)

So what the guy at the riding school is saying is incorrect I believe!

But then on the other hand this is a DSA approved instructor!

Any help?

EDIT: he quoted me £450 for both parts

Thanks

Page 3 - It says "pass two part practical test"

So that means mod1 and mod2.

And yes, wait till you are 19 (not long now!) so you can pass on the bigger bike.

When it says "pass two part practical test", doesn't that mean only A2, since I thought that meant off road, and then on road (two parts)?

If you look at page two, that also says "pass two part practical test".

He's telling me to do A1 and A2, but surely I only need to do A2 solely!

He's wrong mate - as you're 19, you can do an A2 test now. No need for A1.

I just did DAS for my A licence. Using his logic, I'd have needed to do CBT, A1, A2 then A.

No!!

Call a different training school and see what they say.

Where abouts in London are you? If you're West, the school I used in Bedfont near Heathrow is pretty awesome. Check them out - http://www.westlondonmotorcycletraining.com

I'd imagine he meant MOD 1 and MOD 2 - deffo don't do the A1 licence anyway!

Thanks for the reassurance!

Well I called up a riding school in Yorkshire (that's where I did my CBT and they're really good guys)...

Reason I don't want to do any tests in London is because of the traffic!

I'm assuming it's alot easier to ride and do the test in Yorkshire than it is in West London!

Or am I wrong? Do you end up going on normal low-traffic roads?

Much appreciated as always :)

EDIT: looked at their website, seems good, the quote "Note: You do not need to have passed the A1. Small (light) motorcycle licence, before undertaking this course. If you have already passed the A1 licence you do not need to re-sit the motorcycle theory and hazard perception test." is assuring. It's quite expensive though

You did explain you want to do A2 once you've turned 19 or has he got the wrong end of the stick and think you want to commence your training before you are 19 in which case his advice is correct ?

If he's totally understood the situation and is still telling you you need to do A1 training/test once you have turned 19 then he's wrong.
