Phooey Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I used my bike this morning and just had a feeling that something didn't feel right so when I got back home I checked the tyre pressures and found the front just a little low. 32psi instead of 36psi.I attached my pump to it and the tyre went completely flat and wouldn't pump up ... assuming that the pump was knackered, I borrowed a friends pump and at first the tyre started to go up but then it went flat again.I've looked all around the tyre but I can't see anywhere that is obviously punctured but I can hear air escaping from somewhere but I can't pin point it exactly.Suggestions for finding out if it is the tyre or the valve? GaryJM Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 little bit of liquid soap in water put it on the valve and see if it bubbles up Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 little bit of liquid soap in water put it on the valve and see if it bubbles up also let it run round bead of tyre so as your pumping you will see if the bead not sealed but it sound like valve to me as well Quote

Tomorrow I will have a good look around the rim. Quote
rennie Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 is the little bit in the middle of the valve stuck in?it should spring out to stop air getting outand push in to allow air in.don't pull it too hard or you'll knacker it completely! Quote
Phooey Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Thanks guys ... update.I had a good look at it today and checked the valve again ... thanks for the tip Rene ... all seems ok. I got some soapy water and ran it around the rim while pumping like crazy with the mates footpump ... nothing! Called another mate who came out and within twenty seconds diagnosed the problem. Would you believe, BOTH pumps were knackered. He got his out and after 15 minutes and a fair bit of sweat, we got to 32psi ... enough to ride it gently to the local garage for a top-up.Who would have thunk it? TWO pumps knackered. Another embarrassing problem solved. Quote
