The rear left indicator packed in on my bandit. I know it's not the bulb as it was the first thing I replaced, so I took the seat cowling off, and hooked up the feed from the rear right indicator where it comes from the loom to the indicator that wasn't working and it worked. So I know the actual unit itself isn't at fault.


I'm sat here looking at a wiring diagram with the intention of routing two new wires past the loom from a point I know works and just leaving the duff wires in the loom.


Here's where it gets confusing.


There is a black wire running from the front left to the left rear, that's the only one that joins the two, then a black and white wire that comes straight off the battery and runs round the wiring diagram attaching to pretty much everything. Including being the only other wire that connects to the indicator. So I'm assuming that's a live?


So can I route a new wire from the front indicator in place of the black wire and try the live that's already in the block connector and hope there's just a break in that one? What if the live to the block connecter is knackered, I've no idea where that branches from the loom, and really don't want to start cutting it up, I also don't want to have to buy a new loom for the sake of an indicator.

I think you will find that the black and white cable is the earth - neutral Mate. Have you opened up all the connectors associated with that part of the wiring loom to the rear indicators? Follow it back from the lights and give it a good check over and clean up on the connectors. Highly unlikely that a rewire will be called for.

There are three block connectors, one for each indicator and one for the rear light. I've wire brushed and given them a squirt of WD. Beyond that the loom is all wrapped up.

Simple way to find out which 'wire' is duff. Using a lenght of insulated wire, cross connect the blacke/white wire to both indications (i.e. in parrallel). Try the indicators.


1. Both work independently = The black/white wire to the 'duff' indicator is open circuit.


2. Both work simultaneously when switched to the 'good' indicator = The 'other' wire on the 'duff' indicator is open circuit.


2a. Does not work when switched to the 'duff' indicator = As per 2 above.


3. Both don't work = ??????? Looks like you have shorted something when cross-connecting and have now 'blown' the fuse.
