flat spot

Recommended Posts

As a reborn novice I am suffering with a slight problem that I am sure you professional knee sliders will know the answer to!!

At idle bike runs fine but if I start off from a junction or from a standstill there is a huge flat spot initially and then power comes in at quite a rate.

This is quite disconcerting as a learner(ish) and I would like to cure it.

GSXR 750 fitted with Micron can.

Any suggestions as to first port of call?? :?:

first thing is to balance the carbs

thats the main cause of flat spots from closed throttle

if no luck then it could be needle hights and jets which is dyno time

carb ballance

It does it all the time hot or cold

Bike is 1991, runs well for my limited experience but feels like it vibrates a lot thru the bars??

if it vibrates alot thru yr bars it could be the front tyre that needs ballancing have you taken any lead weights of the wheel?

Get the carbs balanced - it's a common problem - Bandits and GSX - F models suffer from the same symptoms.

Best to get it on a dyno. This will tell you where the problem is. As it got an after market can fitted, then more than likely you need a dyno jet kit to be fitted . Don't cut corners on this one, a lad that knows what he's doing with the right kit, will save you time, money and agro, it not fun riding a bike with a big flat spot in the power band on wet or dry roads. Most of the big bikes fitted with carbs did suffer from this problem. As l am aware the new generation of bikes fitted with fuel injection normally don't get this problem or they need to get a fueling and ignition system re mapped.

Be safe

Thanks for your concern Chris, dont worry though it is booked in to a bike shop for an overhaul, service and MOT.

Adrian (shop owner) suggests it may be the pilot jets blocked but he will sort it no problem.

I will post result when it comes back.

May as well do it now as it is hissing down again!!

Cheers

Stu
