Gilera Cougar has died on me. Mechanics aren't being helpful

Hi.

This is my first bike, bit of a shed but its been bulletproof up till now. Its a honda cg125 engine I think.

Down as an xlr125 engine, but afaik it was the cg125 in the xlr anyway.

So it had been off the road for around four days as I sat waiting for a new clutch cable.

In the rain with no cover, I might as well add. Autumn yea.

I fitted the new cable and off I went for a ride, had been itching to get back on it.

Rode around for a few hours, sun was out, happy days.

Actually took it past 60 which is the fastest I've ever took it, it's usually vibrating so much at 50 I daren't push it further.

So I get home, coming down a hill into the driveway, It conks out down the road, try to bump it using the speed I was carrying.

No go. Bike just dies. Hasn't started since. The alarm http://www.thatchamsecurity.co.uk/clifford_alarms/motorcycle/cat21/GP1000T_2_1.htm has not been affected at all.

Usually I would click round the ignition once with the key, then twice and the dash lights would come on to notify I was in Neutral, the kickstand was down etc. But nothing happens now. Although when I click the immobiliser remote to arm/disarm, the dash lights and the indicators flash, so through the immobiliser the indicators and the dash lights are getting electric from the battery some how.

I phoned the garage I done my cbt with, they want £50 an hour to look at the bike.

I won't be going back there for anything.

Aprillia in Wallasey.

Called another garage, £28 an hour, so I was going to take it up, but as soon as I mention electrics he says he won't touch it.

Mechanics are really pissin me off lately.

Took the battery out, removed to the tank, tried to see if I could find any faults (1st bike no knowledge).

Read on a forum it could be a blown fuse, no idea where to find these fuses to check.

Got a feeling it is this immobiliser. If I could rip it out I would. But don't know how to, I imagine I would have to splice a few wires etc.

It also will not bump start at all. No go whatsover. the wheel will grip, then the engine will turn, but nothing it just farts to a disappointing stand still.

I tried charging the battery last night but i was using a halfords powerpack that wasn't charged fully itself so god knows if even charged a little.

Put the battery back on, the alarm light stayed on, it usally flashes. Went up the shop for some bacon, alarm back to normal, will not bump.

Any ideas?

I'll try and post some pictures shortly.

Here is a few pictures of the bike.

One of the pictures is showing a weirdly placed fuse box thingy just behind the battery on the right handside.

It's got a 15 and 25 fuse, if I recall correctly, dunno what theyre for, pulled em out they dont look too good.

Gonna see about getting some new ones today, but dont even know what they are for.

I don't know this bike.....but, does it have a kill switch? I'd disconnect or override the alarm too.....just to eliminate it....

Hi, it has a killswitch yes. How would I over ride it? the alarm really annoys me anyway, always pressing the bloody remote, I would remove it but I don't know how to.

I'm hoping its just a battery/alarm issue.

I don't fancy trying to check every wire on the bike for a short or something.

Thanks for the reply.

Most alarms have a plug or similar that jumps the immobiliser connections on the alarm connector.....but I'm guessing you probably don't have the override plug? The only other thing is to do a search on your alarm model and see if there's any advice on disconnecting it on the internet.... 8-)

Got it sorted a few days ago, it was two fuses just behind the battery had gone. Paid 20 quid for my ignorance to local mechanic. Might as well post this up here incase anyone else searches the internet with Cougar problems.
