I-AM-THOR Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Recently got a hornet and he fired it up no probs. it stopped working so I thought it was the battery dos he said it was goosed. Started up each time for a few days. Now it won't start. Replaced the battery. It fires up for a brief moment, chugs then cuts out. Shook the bike and it's got petrol in there. Thanks Quote
I-AM-THOR Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 There was a fuel switch under the seat on reserve. Switched to on but still only fires up for a second and turns off. Quote
Tango Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Does the fuel tap have a vacuum hose going to it......and is it ok? Some bikes have a Prime position on the fuel tap.....does it have one? Does sound like fuel starvation..... Quote
I-AM-THOR Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Got it working thanks to the Internet. Common fault which has multiple fixes It has a hose. Gave the bike some new petrol and gave it a shake. Tried it and nothing again so I just kept my finger on the ignition button for 10 seconds or so and gave it a few revs. Tried it 5 times and starts every time but still doesn't sound right. Sounds like it chugging when idle. Maybe I should see about cleaning the pipes? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 sounds like it could be choking up is it running ok with choke turned off or are you keeping it on full choke while just running it and has it been given a blast down the road to clear the crap out of the exhaust if there is any in there Quote
I-AM-THOR Posted October 5, 2014 Author Posted October 5, 2014 Sourced the problem. As said above it was fuel starvation. Problem is I'm not sure the issue is 100% fixed. It's hard to tell because it's never been my bike. Pulled off the tank. Checked the pipes and re installed it. Started first time. Problem seems to be the pipe protector but too worried if I remove it the engine will burn the pipe. Bike still seems to chug when idle. Lights have started doing a small flicker but that could be vibration. Something else that keeps going around in my mind is how this could happen and if I have actually solved the problem. How can a bike work and then not and be a hose. When the bike hasn't moved since purchase. I will be getting a new set of hoses. Quote
