Comfortablynumb Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Hi again folks, the other day after adjusting my chain tension my rear brake locked up, couldn't spin the wheel at all. I did slacken the adjuster for the break first, but anyway I pushed on the rear brake pedal quite hard and something gave way and the wheel freed up. Since then it's not felt right, I braked quite hard coming into traffic and something 'popped' and their was suddenly way more freeplay. I've readjusted a few times but the brake feels really hard, there's no progressive braking really it's seems to go from all to nothing no matter how much or little freeplay Stopping power is really reduced but it was enough to stop me rolling backwards down a hill (thankfully!). Any suggestions guys? Quote
megawatt Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 You need to check the pedal pivot, it sometimes gets rusty on the inside and can seize up. If this doesn't work, remove the rear wheel, remove the brake hub and brake shoes. Filing the leading edges of the brake shoes sometimes does the trick. Also remove , clean and regrease the brake operating spindle where it goes into the hub. Quote
