Guest Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Hi All,Hope this is the right place to post this. I sprained my elbow mid September, diving to the ground playing paintball (haha I know), and since then it's been niggling away with minor but annoying tendonitis.I took 4 weeks off riding in December, then did just 3 hours a week in January (usually do about 15 hours a week), plus lots of stretching & taking glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and cod liver oil.I decided to take 8 weeks off riding from February to let it settle and have a physio appointment in the works, but haven't seen a physio yet.I'm also 38 years old and did a ton of sports in my youth, and have generally achey joints from all that.I wanted to ask a few things:1. Should I let a physio see my riding position on my Bandit 600, and look at changing the bars, in case ergonomics are at fault? I have medium height Renthal road bars on it, so it's an upright position. Ideally I'd like to avoid bar risers, purely out of vanity.2. Do any older riders here get ongoing niggles from riding, and if so, does it hold you back? My elbow isn't weakened and in no way affects my riding, but my worry is - I keep on riding, it gets worse, and I have to have many months or more off my bike (and 5 weeks off it so far, is driving me nuts!)Guess I'm looking for some perspective here, because ankle and knee issues stopped me running in road races years ago, which used to be the thing I loved, and I don't want another injury to stop me riding - which I love even more. Thanks Quote
Stu Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Hi and welcome to the forum interesting questions really If I was you I would go to the appointment on the bike if you can and mention it that way they have the option it could be riding position causing it and just a few inches can make all the difference .........................ask the women Quote
Guest Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 You will need to strengthen the tendon with eccentric resistance. This is the lowering phase of a movement. Are you sure it's tendonitis? If it's been sprained and sustained ligament damage, it could actually be exactly that. Quote
fq-craigus Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Good luck pal im battling wit tendonitis in my hand from my accident and it is dam painful at the moment and normally uncomfortable Quote
Guest Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Hi and welcome to the forum interesting questions really If I was you I would go to the appointment on the bike if you can and mention it that way they have the option it could be riding position causing it and just a few inches can make all the difference .........................ask the women Thanks Stu, I'll do that & haha at the few inches The riding position has always felt spot on, even after hurting my elbow - elbow never hurts during the ride. Interested to see how a physio sees the ergonomics. Riding my GF's Monster 695 didn't seem to affect my elbow despite more lean and a more narrow bar (so more triceps work)... but then it's a much lighter bike and I always rode it very steadily, not being my bike (she's sold it now though and has no bike). You will need to strengthen the tendon with eccentric resistance. This is the lowering phase of a movement. Are you sure it's tendonitis? If it's been sprained and sustained ligament damage, it could actually be exactly that. Eccentric exercise makes sense, as does most strength training from past experience... when I've had knee issues, strengthening my quads always stopped it. I'm not sure if it's tendonitis just a guess from how it feels, I'm going to push for an MRI to see if there's ligament damage. Thanks mate. Do you have any links to eccentric resistance exercises please? Good luck pal im battling wit tendonitis in my hand from my accident and it is dam painful at the moment and normally uncomfortable That sucks mate, how long has it hurt for and is it interfering with your riding?I've just started taking Celadrin capsules which seem to be clinically proven for ligament/joint and arthritus issues: just one week into taking them, but excellent reviews:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Solgar-Celadrin ... n+capsuleshttp://www.celadrininfo.com/faq/faq.htmlThanks again guys Quote

Guest Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Been hurting since mid jan, tried ridingthe bike straight away but too painful, started riding properly a couple weeks ago still some pain but bareable the last couple days nearly no pain. Been on neproxin on and off Glad to hear you're back on the bike. The Celadrin I'm taking seems to have started working - my elbow feels quite a lot better, but old running pains in my knees and ankles have almost gone away, and for want of a better phrase, my knees feel a lot more robust.Still waiting on an NHS physio, but seeing my GP on Wednesday and will nag them to hurry things along.I'm going to start riding again in 3 weeks anyway - life's too short and all that, and I'll have the Winter to rest up + physio if needed.
