Guest Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Im on a slightly limited budget and was wondering if I could use a wheel cleaning fluid (which I happen to have) to clean my chain instead of a proper chain cleaner?I would obviously use a proper chain lube after but this would save me money Quote
Stu Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 depends on the wheel cleaner I'm going to say no as most have acid in them to remove brake dust! Quote
Chrissb6 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I wouldn't use it, wheel cleaners in general use some pretty strong chemicals, not the sort of stuff you want to be washing the O rings in your chain with. I would play safe Mate and use something else Quote
Glorian Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Best cheap cleaner for a chain, is Paraffin, get 4-5 litres from B&Q (garden center) for £6. If you can remove your chain put it in a milk bottle pour some paraffin and shake it gently and repeat once and should be sparkling.I can't remove mine so i get a bristly brush and scrub it on then wipe it off with some rags and it shines. rice-pudding Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 How about using chain cleaner to remove fling from back wheel ? Quote
Glorian Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Prob best use a dry rag and maybe a little degreaser if its lubricant? Quote
