For the first time in many years I've been quite captivated by MotoGP.

My daughter and I have watched the first three races and thoroughly enjoyed them.

It got me thinking... is going to the British GP still as good as it used to be?

(the last time I went was a looong time ago (think old two strokes and your close)

I except that cost will not be cheap, but that aside, is it a good event?

I would like tips on good viewing points, and camping sites?

I'm thinking of a Saturday night only and Sunday race ticket.

Is it still a good idea to camp on the Sunday, so you can avoid the after race traffic?

My idea is too travel on the bike.

Thanks in advance

Hi personally l don't like the circuit, the viewing is poor unless you pay a small fortune for a grandstand seat, parking and camping is also silly money. If you want to go and see the Gp done proper then get yourself to Holland. The Dutch do the GP on a far grander scale. The town of Assen for the week is just mega, you can get cracking deals for the ferry across from Harwich to the Hook of Holland, its a 3hr drive from there to the circuit camping and tickets are all at realistic prices. I'll bet if you total up the cost of going to Silverstone grandstand tickets, parking, camping and all you be on similar numbers for going to Assen including the Ferry.

Silverstone is hideously expensive compared to a lot of circuits. I looked into going to the British F1 GP weekend this year...even with the extra travelling..it would be quite a bit cheaper to go to Spa!

We have been going each year for the last several.

We make a holiday out of it, go down on the Wednesday and leave Monday morning.

We camp in Silverstone woodland.

This year its cost us just short of £500 all 3 days reserved seats Sunday and camping. 2 adults n 2 kids.

All I can say is we love it

We done Spa for the F1 there's not a circuit to touch it, awesome

I think it's a case of why you go.

If it's purely to watch bikes go round in circles for 3 days then yes the viewing is poor.

But if it's the whole experience. The live bands on track and on camp site then I really rate it.

The family camping field last year was top notch. The money has been spent well.

I went last year and the grandstand wasn't that much dearer than deneral admission (I think it was £15 more for race day only).

Parking is free and very easy for motorcycles.

I was sitting at Village and it was were all the good staff happened (Marquez-Lorenzo).

I believe that if he's thinking of going for one day (which is not that bad imo), it's a fairly good choice and it WILL be cheaper than travelling abroad.

And yes, the f1 tickets are hideously expensive but that's another issue.

We are in Club Corner this time.

Have been in vale last couple of years.

Thanks for the input guys.

As I mentioned "taking money out of the equation" Silverstone seems to be OK.

It's just that watching Rossi this season and knowing how close he's coming to becoming an all time num1 legend, made me think I should go and watch him race at least once.

So camping is good and viewing is OK?

Which Grandstands would you recommend?

Village B, that's where I was last year.

Coming out from a 150-ish left into a very short straight and then into a tight right and tight left and then hard on the throttle again..

We like it down by Vale and club corner.

TBH. If you can, make a proper break of it like we do.

we camp from the Wednesday and do the day of champions on the Thurs also.

We camp in the family field on woodlands. Much improved last year and for camping the facilities are spot on.

Yes Silverstone isn't the best for viewing but its the whole experience you go for.

R lass is only a little interested in bikes and she doesn't attend any BSB or Scarborough but she will always try to get to Silverstone for the motogp for the aatmosphere etc.

Becketts grandstand. You can see most of the new arena section, watch them hare off down Wellington straight and then pick them up again through Copse and through Maggots/Becketts/Chapel section, watching them flow through there is something to behold!

If you like crashes they all happen braking down the hill into Vale (what hill there is on Silverstone)

And just be aware of where you're being pointed if you're camping in their camp site, when I went we had booked the family camping and followed the marshals directions. When we got back from practice Friday we were in the noisy field with people rammed in so close there were tent pegs under our tent on one side, under my car the other and someone blasting the Doors at full blast ALL NIGHT immediately opposite

Family camping is a totally separate area now Ohjay.

But I know what you mean about the lively camping. ..
